![]() Queenstown Lakes District Council spokeswoman Meaghan Miller said Queenstown was promoted as a meeting place for gays and the policy was supported by the council, which helped to facilitate gay ski week. The council had no issue with Queenstown or any part of the town being promoted as places to meet, she said. "The only concern we would have is that toilets are for the use of the community, to be used as toilets."Ī gay Queenstown man said the internet had changed the way gays met in the past 15 years and he saw no reason they would still want to meet in public toilets when they could "pick up" online. ![]() Other members of the gay community declined to comment yesterday. Southland police area commander Inspector Barry Taylor said the issue was raised with police from time to time. "However, if there's no illegal activity then we aren't overly concerned. People can meet anywhere they like in today's society. Mr Taylor said he did not want to raise public concern when there was nothing to be concerned about.
